My New Husqvarna Sewing Machine

This is the Husqvarna Viking Topaz 50. It is my new sewing machine and….I love it! Please note that I am not affiliated with Husqvarna. I am, however, a very satisfied customer 🙂

Previously I owned the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116. It’s the machine I learned to sew on, and boy…this workhorse put me through some wringers. As time passed (and my expertise grew) so did my sewing needs. Eventually new ideas, projects, and designs came to mind. All these demanded more than my Emerald could handle.

So I went to my Husqvarna Viking dealer and was introduced to the Topaz 50. It is a sewing AND embroidery machine. It has more stitches than what I could have asked for! The design possibilities are endless. Some features that really stand out for me are:

  • It sews with just the push of a button, which is a change I haven’t quite gotten used to yet. It does have an option that allows you to use the foot pedal, which is what I’ve been using. I find that the pedal allows a more precise sense of control over whatever I’m working on.
  • It has a nifty feature called The Sewing Advisor, which is displayed on the touchscreen you see on the right. Some of the marvels it can do is pick a buttonhole for your fabric, recommend needle sizes, automatically match the right stitch according to length, cut the thread for you, and its fix option automatically locks the stitches before you begin sewing. All these options are real time-savers!
  • It has incredibly beautiful satin stitches with numerous style options.

I’ve yet to use the embroidery option, though I already have some ideas on how to include it on upcoming designs. There’s a ton of accessories, a bit of a learning curve, but when passion and persistence fuel your drive the result will always be something you can be proud of.
